During the second half of the twentieth century, the numbers of Arab Presbyterian Christians in California. increased tremendously and a need for a worship meeting for them began to surface.

So, a group of devout Egyptian Christians came together and communicated with the Synod of the Nile in Egypt this need and the possibility of starting a Presbyterian meeting in the Los Angeles Area.

April 1988 saw the birth of this meeting through the support of the San Gabriel Presbytery. They had their first meeting in Westminster Church in Pasadena, CA.

In 1992, Pastor Adel Iskander moved to Los Angeles to help in the development of this meeting to grow into a Church as they started their weekly meetings. In November 1994, the Mideast Evangelical Church (MEC) was registered with the State of California as a non-profit organization — the first Arabic speaking Presbyterian Church in the US West Coast. Pastor Adel continued to lead the church until he was called to heaven in 1995.
في عام 1992 قَدُم من القاهرة القس عادل إسكندر للمساعدة في تطوير الإجتماع ليصبح كنيسة إنجيلية، ومن أجل ذلك قد تم إنضمام الإجتماع إلى مجمع سان جابريل المشيخي التابع للكنيسة المشيخية الأمريكية. وفي عام 1994 تم تسجيل الكنيسة كهئية غير هادفة للربح بولاية كاليفورنيا لتكون أول كنيسة إنجيلية مشيخية بالساحل الغربي الأمريكي وتابعة للكنيسة المشيخية الأمريكية. وقد كان القس عادل إسكندرهو أول راعياً للكنيسة، إلا أن الله دعاه لجواره عام 1995
In 1997, Magdy Girgis was ordained as a pastor for the church thus becoming the second pastor for MEC.
In 2007, God called pastor Magdy Girgis to another field of ministry in California after serving as MEC pastor for ten years.

In 2008, the Church started looking for a new pastor, and in June 2011 Maher Makar became a lay pastor for MEC.
